Case description
On March 31, 1974, around 8 p.m., a man, his wife, their son and an 80-year-old woman reportedly observed an unusual illuminated object near Valensole, then in Basses-Alpes. The summary describes it as a small car or bus-like form that appeared to be on the ground, with unusually broad windows. Those comparisons describe its appearance rather than identifying an actual road vehicle.
The windows were strongly illuminated with blue-green light, and indistinct forms seemed to move inside. Seven vertical red lights were reportedly visible above the main object. At about 8:30 p.m., from his wife’s parents’ house, the principal witness saw it again. He then drove toward the area and continued on foot, reportedly approaching to within roughly 500–800 yards.
The HUMCAT/Rosales summary credits C. Lavigne and LDLN no. 153. It supplies neither clearly described occupant anatomy nor a verified technical explanation for the lights. This 1974 incident is distinct from Maurice Masse’s better-known 1965 Valensole report. The plate follows the initial group observation, retaining the broad blue-green windows, indistinct interior forms and seven red lights while leaving exact dimensions, construction and occupants’ faces unresolved.
