South / Umvuma, Rhd abduction report — June 1, 1974

Peter and Frances, a married couple traveling from Salisbury through Rhodesia to South Africa, described an unusual journey on the night of May 30–31, 1974. The detailed witness report places the journey on May 30–31, rather than June 1 found in some later listings. About ten kilometers south of Umvuma, Peter noticed a person beside the road; shortly afterward a light appeared and kept pace with their Peugeot. They reported that the headlights faded and that the car continued rapidly despite Peter easing off the accelerator. Both felt cold. Near Fort Victoria, he regained control and stopped for fuel. Continuing toward Beitbridge, they again described loss of control and surroundings that seemed unfamiliar, including a road that appeared unusually straight. At the border their watches and dashboard clock differed from the local time by about an hour. They also reported fuel consumption far below what they expected for the journey. Later hypnotic sessions produced additional recollections of the car being taken into a large craft, examinations and other people aboard. Those later scenes belong to their regression accounts; their conscious journey consists of the roadside figure, accompanying lights, vehicle behavior and discrepancies noticed on arrival.
