Case description
The catalogue dates this reported encounter near Bridgewater, Tasmania, to July 26, 1974, at about 7 p.m. Two men travelling by car reportedly found themselves being followed by an unusual object. A fuller later retelling places the route from Hobart toward Campania during July, without specifying the day. It attributes the report to the Tasmanian UFO Investigation Centre and to an article by Richard Hall titled “Man Claims UFO Controlled Auto.”
The object appeared oval, without visible wings. One witness described a red light near the upper front and a larger light below. It made no sound. When their car turned off the highway, the object hovered and then continued keeping pace. Accelerating or slowing the vehicle brought corresponding changes in its movement.
Where houses and other buildings clustered along the Campania road, the object rose and moved farther away. On returning to open countryside, the men saw it descend and resume following. The driver said steering became unusually difficult: the car tended toward the side where the object was, and correcting its course required considerable effort. He felt that he was losing control of the vehicle.
After the object disappeared, the driver said his arms and shoulders ached from that effort. The account describes a frightening car-following and apparent control-interference experience; neither witness is reported leaving the car or boarding another craft.
