The native database labels this 29 July 1974 report Chengdu, Gansu, but the matching Flying Saucer Review account locates it in the Genqing district near Lanzhou. At approximately 21:00, student Ke Jingzhi was reportedly walking through vegetable gardens toward the workers’ canteen when he noticed a humanlike figure blocking the path.
The figure was described as a little under six feet tall, dark all over and faintly luminous. Ke could not distinguish its face. He initially thought another person was inspecting the irrigation system. The figure remained silent and motionless. When he shouted again, its glow brightened and it disappeared into nearby tall grass. He searched unsuccessfully, then fled. Creighton’s fuller text says two production-brigade leaders reported a similar figure two years later; a retrospective video instead says two days.
Ke reportedly kept silent initially and later wrote to the Chinese journal Feidie Tansuo. Gordon Creighton summarized the account in Flying Saucer Review 28/6. The location and later-witness timing conflicts remain explicit. No spacecraft was described, and the dark appearance does not identify an ethnicity or supply detailed anatomy. The plate shows Ke’s first observation only, without importing the later witnesses.
