West / Dargnies, FR being encounter — September 1974

Jules Becquet reportedly found two objects on the ground during an afternoon walk near Dargnies in September 1974. He remembered a Monday, when his factory was closed, after the harvest. From a plateau above the Bouvaincourt woods he first saw two domed discs several hundred metres away. He approached openly across the fields and stopped on a bank less than a hundred metres from them. Becquet described tarnished-aluminium objects approximately ten to twelve metres across, each with a dome about a third of its width. Eight entirely human-looking people in bluish mechanic overalls appeared to work beside one disc. They were bareheaded, with hair of different colours. Some looked toward him; others moved behind the craft. Eventually they passed between the objects and disappeared from view. About thirty seconds later both discs rose quietly and travelled toward Eu and Le Tréport. At the site he found a bluish piece he called crystal, but explicitly could not say it came from either craft. He handled it with a cloth and stick and later placed unexposed film beside it, interpreting the unfogged film as reassurance about radiation. That informal experiment was not a material identification or a radiation survey. Joël Mesnard and Gildas Bourdais interviewed him in June 1996, nearly twenty-two years later. Becquet had previously helped investigate another encounter. His background and detailed recollection document the report's history, not independent confirmation. The fuller account differs from Hatch's shorthand about rapid departure and lava rock; it also explicitly denies missing time.
