Case description
Dale Norton and Sheryl Ricard were returning from a flounder-fishing trip near Brookby, Auckland, at about 23:30 on 8 January 1975. On Alfriston Road, roughly a mile from Brookby, Sheryl noticed a bright red globe ahead. Trees and a bend briefly hid it. Dale initially thought it was an aircraft, but he slowed when it crossed their car and moved over a nearby paddock. The fuller sequence survives in INTCAT's synthesis of Spaceview and subsequent Australasian reporting.
Sheryl described a circular object about the size of a family car, with a bright clear dome, two white and two red rim lights, and four projecting legs with smaller red lights at their ends. Through the Plexiglas-like dome she allegedly saw three shadowy figures moving. The object then reportedly paced their car just above roadside power lines, only about seven metres away. When Dale proposed stopping, Sheryl became frightened, so they turned into the first house's driveway instead.
With their engine off, they heard a faint hum. The object hovered briefly and then shot away over the hills before the householder came outside. Sheryl was reportedly distressed afterwards, but the account supplies no physical encounter with the figures or verified medical consequence. Their faces and clothing remained undescribed. The plate depicts the close pacing phase, rather than combining the initial globe, hovering at the house and final departure into one simultaneous event.
