Case description
Antoine Séverin, a twenty-one-year-old delivery clerk, reported a close encounter near Piton Calvaire at Petite-Île, Réunion, on February 14, 1975, around 1 p.m. He described beeping sounds, a brilliant hat-shaped object hovering above a field, and short figures descending by a small stairway. One carried an instrument and another a bag; he did not say that he saw soil placed in the bag.
Séverin said that a flash threw him backward before the figures re-entered and the object rose with a loud whistle. After returning home, he experienced pronounced distress and problems speaking. His mother reported the episode to the gendarmerie the next morning, prompting interviews, medical consultations, and attempts to identify the location.
The reproduced police report records no burns or wounds on the initial examination, and two radioactivity checks were negative. Investigators documented his condition and testimony but did not observe the encounter. The plate depicts the approach and figures without illustrating an injury or assuming that their activity was scientific sampling.
