Case description
An artist named Malichev reportedly encountered three visitors while painting a landscape near Solnechnogorsk on 21 July 1975. Vallée's account describes a clear afternoon in a pasture, where the artist felt a touch on his shoulder and turned toward a disc-shaped object. Two men and a woman stood in front of it. The woman seemed to lead the group, and their invitation to fly with them was allegedly communicated telepathically.
Malichev initially declined. The visitors boarded their nearly forty-foot disc, which carried three antennas, and took off. He then described an extraordinary succession of shape changes: the object split into eight parts, reunited, became a ring and then a cylinder, before returning as a disc. When it landed again, he said he followed the figures inside.
His subsequent account included a flight to a planet with three moons, a large face appearing on a screen and a glimpse of a recently deceased friend. The entire episode allegedly lasted about two hours, with approximately forty minutes of flight. These are elements of his narrative, not observations independently verified by astronomical or physical evidence.
Vallée and Martine Castello encountered the case during their Soviet research. Investigator Vladimir Azhazha said Malichev had undergone psychiatric assessment and two hypnosis sessions. The publication does not cleanly separate every remembered detail by its recovery method. The plate therefore illustrates the initial meeting only, using human-looking visitors and the stated disc and antennas, without presenting the later visionary sequence as an established journey.
