Near Zvishavane, Rhod being encounter — August 17, 1975

At about 6:10 p.m. on 17 August 1975, Henry Authers and his father-in-law,L. Sealy, were driving home from a mine near Shabani, now Zvishavane, Zimbabwe. Roughly 24.5 kilometers outside the town, they noticed what seemed to be a rapidly approaching bus. After negotiating a bend, however, they saw it traveling downhill in their own direction. The vehicle reportedly had a domed appearance and panoramic windows separated by narrow black pillars. Strong white light illuminated its interior. The men could distinguish one passenger standing and another sitting, but the surviving description does not establish unusual anatomy or identify a driver. They followed the bus around another corner and found that it had disappeared, although they knew of no turnoff along that stretch. Cynthia Hind included the account in UFOs: African Encounters, drawing on her investigation; the later INTCAT entry preserves this fuller sequence. It is an anomalous road-vehicle report, not an observation of a saucer or demonstrably alien passengers. The disappearance occurred beyond a bend, rather than as a witnessed transparent fading on an unobstructed road. The plate depicts the bus before that disappearance and leaves its occupants unresolved.
