Case description
Sandy Larson set out from Fargo, North Dakota, early on August 26, 1975, intending to travel to Bismarck for a real-estate examination. Her daughter Jackie and Jackie's boyfriend, Terry O'Leary, accompanied her. At about 4 a.m., roughly forty-five miles west of Fargo on Interstate 94, they saw a flash, heard a rumbling sound and noticed a group of luminous objects.
The objects appeared to descend toward nearby trees before some moved away. The three travellers described an instant of immobility or interrupted awareness. When ordinary awareness resumed, Jackie was in the back seat without remembering changing seats, and approximately an hour had passed.
Later that year, Sandy and Jackie separately underwent hypnosis with psychologist R. Leo Sprinkle. Jackie described being outside the car and unable to move. Sandy recalled being floated aboard an object and placed on a table by a large, robotlike figure, followed by procedures involving a liquid and an instrument near her nose. Terry confirmed the unusual sighting and sensations but did not take part in that later regression work.
The roadside observation and missing interval are therefore distinguished from the procedures recalled later. The case entered APRO's abduction literature and remains identified by the Fargo–Bismarck journey, the three vehicle occupants and the interruption in their travel.
