Case description
On the night of January 10, 1976, a caravan resident named Masseron at Merville-Franceville said blows, scraping and shaking woke him. Looking outside, he saw a luminous egg-shaped object approximately one to one and a half metres tall, green above and red below. It reportedly rose in a spiral to about fifteen metres, accompanied by a piercing whine, and disappeared. The fuller account places the disturbance around 10:30 p.m.; the imported catalogue gives 10 p.m.
After going outside, Masseron heard a scratchy voice resembling radio communication. The repeated letters he remembered were “LPX.” He then saw a dark humanlike figure crossing the road with its body held at an unusual angle. The object had already gone: the shorthand description of a figure standing beside the egg compresses separate phases. Another resident, Mrs Zamora, described a green-and-red ellipse moving vertically and pitching, together with voices. Her husband arrived too late to see the object but reportedly heard the continuing sounds.
Investigator Guillaume Chevallier visited that night and reported unusual impressions on the ground. Later writers discussed a possible military exercise, but the accessible account does not establish that explanation. The episode contains reported sounds, lights and a poorly resolved figure, rather than a clearly described alien anatomy or demonstrated conversation with extraterrestrials.
