Claude Cretin reportedly encountered an unusual roadside figure while driving in the Beaune area of Côte-d'Or on 26 January 1976. The imported digest places it between Bouze and Beaune at 21:50, while a fuller catalogue gives approximately 21:45. Its source chain runs through a Le Bien Public report published on 24 March and reproduced in Lumières dans la Nuit. The month of publication is not the event date.
In the HUMCAT abstract, Cretin first saw a searchlight-like beam flash three times. He then noticed a figure about twenty feet away, partly hidden by roadside bushes. Its visible upper body resembled a yellow-orange diving suit. A rounded helmet had a rectangular glass opening at eye level and a whitish light on top. He continued driving and notified police. The following day, investigators reportedly found freshly broken branches at the place he indicated. No person was caught and no craft was described.
Later summaries change the suit to fluorescent red and sometimes expand the branch finding into an implied landing trace. The recovered early abstract does not establish either change or a causal connection between the branches and the figure. The ledger also includes a hoax flag, but the accessible reporting does not document a confession or resolved prank. The plate therefore follows the yellow-orange, partially obscured suit and helmet rather than adding a vehicle, exposed alien face or complete body anatomy that the witness had not seen.
