Near Arden, NV being encounter — January 29, 1976

Country singer Johnny Sands reported an unusual encounter on Blue Diamond Road while returning toward Las Vegas on 29 January 1976. An aircraft-like object paced his car before the engine sputtered. After stopping, he saw an approximately sixty-foot rusty-orange body shaped like a blimp, with a large central ring, circular windows and flashing red and white lights. It moved beyond a mountain and seemed to land. Two men then approached the stranded car. Sands described ordinary human proportions, bald heads, deeply wrinkled faces, flat noses and small dark eyes with pale centres. Moving gill-like folds were visible beside their faces. APRO’s detailed account specifies dark, silver-black coveralls, white diagonal straps and white belts carrying small metallic capsules; it expressly corrects an artist who reversed the clothing shades. One questioned him about his occupation, the crowds in Las Vegas and methods of communication, apparently speaking without moving its mouth. After roughly ten minutes the pair walked into the desert and allegedly disappeared in a flash. The car then restarted. Airport and base spokesmen reported no relevant radar detection, with coverage limitations noted. A favourable polygraph interpretation was published, but its examiner did not certify the entire narrative as fact. Proposed hypnotic regression had not supplied the account. APRO also discussed a separate February visit with a film crew and suggested costumed performers may have frightened Sands during that later outing. That suspicion must not be silently presented as a demonstrated explanation of the January encounter. The plate labels its joined craft-and-figure scene as a reconstruction of successive observations.
