Luís Barroso Fernandes reportedly experienced a roadside encounter while travelling from Quixadá toward his farm in Ceará during April 1976. The catalogue places it on April 23 at about 5 a.m.; a later investigation published by Marco Leal gives April 3 and an earlier hour. Those date and time differences remain unresolved.
In that fuller account, Barroso was travelling by animal-drawn cart when he heard an unusual buzzing and saw a bright object ahead. It stopped near the road and was described as a large, rounded craft. Two figures emerged with an implement resembling a flashlight and directed light toward his face. He said that he became unable to move.
His next remembered circumstances were away from the original location. A cattle worker who knew him found him and helped him return home. His family subsequently reported serious changes in his condition, including progressive difficulty communicating and caring for himself.
Researcher Reginaldo de Athayde followed the case over a period of years, and later interviews with relatives and a doctor form part of its source history. The report does not provide a continuous recollection of an onboard journey; Barroso’s roadside observations and the later family accounts should be read as separate stages.
