Trevor White, described in later compilations as 17, reported a backyard encounter in Daw Park, South Australia, at about 2 a.m. in late May 1976. Radio interference and his dog's barking prompted him to look outside. He said he saw a figure wearing a silver suit, white boots and a chest box marked with a figure eight. Keith Basterfield's catalogue additionally records a black visor and an estimated height of 165–175 centimetres.
In the expanded account, the figure stood near the dog and appeared to pat it. White heard unintelligible speech and withdrew toward his bedroom as it approached. The figure then reportedly rose through the air and entered a silver, cigar-shaped object above nearby trees. That version describes red illumination at the rear and green light on top before the object departed.
The sources disagree on whether the date was 30 or 31 May. Later accounts also mention footprints and yellowed grass noticed after the event, but Basterfield states that investigators found no visible traces when they arrived. The alleged marks should therefore not be presented as verified physical evidence. The plate is a labelled composite of the backyard encounter and the later craft phase; its face is obscured by the specifically reported visor rather than an invented alien appearance.
Film repeatedly says May 30, while Atlas ledger says May 31 and current narrative preserves the disagreement. Later footprint/yellow-grass claims do not override Basterfield’s statement that investigators found no visible traces.
