Case description
The Ste-Anne-de-Sabrevois report concerns a couple’s different views of luminous phenomena outside their home early on July 29, 1976. HUMCAT identifies the woman as Madame Bernier and cites investigator Marc Leduc’s account in UFO-Québec number 7. Later summaries place it at about 1:10 a.m. The fuller description is stranger, and less anatomically definite, than the shorthand phrase “fireballs on legs.”
Madame Bernier reportedly looked through a window and saw a broad, floating area of white light, compared to a carpet. It was estimated at fifty feet long, nine feet wide and thirteen inches thick, suspended about two feet above the ground. At its end she could see what looked like the legs of two men in gray, heavily creased trousers. The account does not provide visible heads or complete bodies for these apparent figures.
She woke her husband. His reported view consisted of two brilliant white spheres surrounded by red, lace-like structure, at approximately waist height. HUMCAT gives their diameter as eight inches; some later transcriptions accidentally turn that into eight feet. The spheres descended and appeared to merge, then disappeared within seconds, with an impression of electrical crackling.
The wife’s legs-and-light observation and the husband’s merging spheres should not become a single, fully described alien species. Nor does the luminous carpet establish a solid spacecraft. The plate explicitly combines the reported phases, keeping the bodies concealed by glare and the small spheres separate enough to illustrate the husband’s description. Sizes, movements and sounds remain the couple’s estimates, rather than instrumentally documented measurements.
