St. Raphael, FR being encounter — August 1976

Four people travelling in two cars near Saint-Raphaël reportedly saw an unusual luminous object and several dark forms during 1976. Hatch places the episode in August at about 12:30 a.m. A version traced through Éric Zurcher’s LDLN article gives only an approximate year and a time around 1:30 a.m. In that version, the object stood in a roadside field and resembled a faintly luminous rocket. A beam illuminated part of the distance toward the road but appeared to stop abruptly. The cars were several metres apart, and the witnesses described between four and eight black silhouettes. They reportedly gathered into one vehicle and drove away while sounding its horn. A return the following day revealed no visible traces. A Rosales summary of the same LDLN reference instead describes a top-shaped object above the road, with eight forms moving inside, and says it departed after the horn sounded. These are materially different placements and sequences. The record therefore preserves the native entry while distinguishing the exterior-figure version from the interior-occupant version. Neither supplies anatomy or clothing details sufficient to identify a particular alien type, and the horn does not establish a verified causal response.
