Case description
At about 10 a.m. on August 6, 1976, Freddy Chiasson, his wife Claire and their two sons were driving through fog in Gaspésie Provincial Park, Quebec. A red beam reportedly pierced the fog and projected a small circle onto the road ahead, pacing the car for several miles. Its illuminated column then seemed to contract upward in sections.
A bright white light approached, heat built up inside the car, and the headlights, radio and engine reportedly failed. The family got out and saw a large metallic object with windows and landing legs, described in a fuller account as scallop-shaped and extending across the road. Claire first noticed a massive face with large eyes. They retreated, before the sons and their father approached again and described two tall, bald figures in close-fitting khaki-brown clothing near the object.
A burst of light and heat reportedly accompanied the disappearance of both object and most of the fog. The car then started, and the family later reported temporary itching. The source trail leads to Jean Ferguson's UFO-Québec investigation and subsequent CUFOS discussion. No taking aboard or invasive procedure is described. The plate keeps the family, unusually tall figures and legged craft together in the reported roadside setting.
