Almusafes, Vlnc, Spain being encounter — September 1, 1976

A man going to feed sheep at Almussafes, Valencia, reportedly noticed a brilliant white light moving low above nearby trees at about 4 a.m. on September 1, 1976. The light reversed direction and descended into a field by orange bushes near the cemetery. Hatch describes the object as a sphere approximately two metres across. In the fuller account, the white illumination went out, leaving a dark round form with a blinking red light. A very heavyset humanlike figure then appeared nearby. It wore a silvery outfit and a shining black helmet and moved awkwardly, as though struggling to balance. Hatch gives its height as approximately 1.9 metres. After about ten minutes the figure was no longer visible; the object became a fiery orange and shot upward at high speed. The source trail leads through Ballester Olmos and Fernández Peri’s Enciclopedia de los encuentros cercanos con OVNIs and subsequent compilations. Ground traces and animal reactions are mentioned but are not accompanied here by the examination records needed to assess them. No facial anatomy is described beneath the helmet, and the account does not establish how the figure left view. Its apparent difficulty walking is an observation, not a verified statement about gravity or physiology.
