Case description

Lorenza Maltoni Jole, aged sixty-nine, reported an unusual disturbance at her Ravenna home on 3 September 1976. A noise outside, compared in later accounts to a bird’s cry, drew her to a window. Across the road, between two houses, she saw an oval object estimated at three metres wide and two metres high. The BUFORA report describes it as pinkish mauve, accompanied by four or five small white spheres approximately twenty centimetres across. Between the woman and the object stood a humanlike figure approximately 1.75 metres tall. It wore martial-looking clothing and a helmet with a central projection. Expanded accounts compare it with a Roman soldier, describe a smooth face and a head tilted slightly downward, and state that only the upper body was visible. Its legs were not observed. This differs materially from the catalogue’s shorthand suggestion of a small helmeted humanoid. Jole moved to another window for a better view and lost sight of the figure. BUFORA’s version says the object subsequently accelerated away; a later account simply finds both gone when she returned. The case was investigated by Renzo Cabassi and communicated by Maurizio Verga. The plate preserves the reported colours, spheres and helmeted upper body without adding Roman weapons or unobserved legs.
