Contemporary 1976 press reports identify the witnesses on the Ollachea–Ayaviri road in Peru as merchant Leoncio Jara Torres and his wife Elena Dueñas de Jara. One clipping gives their ages as 55 and 50. They said a brightly illuminated craft descended near Accopampa, about 30 metres ahead of their truck. The press described it as approximately 20 metres across and three metres high, contrasting with a later catalogue’s 30-metre saucer.
Two humanlike figures reportedly emerged carrying powerful flashlights. They approached the truck and touched the couple on the back or shoulders. Torres described an intense burning sensation, while his wife reportedly fainted. The figures then returned to the craft, which allegedly rose vertically and accelerated away. The press mentioned medical attention for shock and claimed marks at the indicated landing place; these reports do not establish a measured injury mechanism or independently authenticated physical evidence.
Later sources give differing names, dates, times and dimensions. IUR-derived catalogues use 8 September 1976, whereas Rosales gives 6 September. One compressed version even turns the married couple into two young men. The reconstruction therefore uses the press-identified middle-aged couple and a year-only caption, showing the approach before physical contact. Clothing and facial details remain artistic because the surviving descriptions identify the visitors principally as humanlike flashlight carriers.
