Upton Scudamore, Wilts being encounter — September 1976

Willi or Willy Gehlen reportedly stopped to sleep beside a farm gate near Upton Scudamore, Wiltshire, in September 1976. He had locked his vehicle, but woke cold and found its rear hatch open. He closed it, and after the opening happened again he remained awake and uneasy. In the fuller retelling, a humming sound preceded a very tall figure beyond the gate. Gehlen initially assumed it was the farmer and spoke to it, receiving no reply. A dark orange light reportedly came from a square object on the figure's chest. After the figure disappeared, the humming returned and a large object rose with a pulsating pink glow beneath, then departed rapidly. A published account in The UFO Report also calls the figure very tall and describes the vehicle as an estate car. This differs materially from the inherited abstract's small-humanoid description and its van label. The plate follows the fuller tall-figure version and retains a vehicle with an open rear hatch, without asserting an exact make. It brings the separately reported figure and departing object into one illustrative composition; the source does not describe Gehlen watching the being enter it. Nearby crop-circle stories are later material, not evidence that this encounter created a formation.
