Case description
At about 10 p.m. in September 1976, an unnamed man watching from a terrace at Digne, France, reportedly saw a brightly illuminated rectangular cabin suspended over the landscape. The catalogue dates it 20 September; the INTCAT entry, citing Eric Zurcher's account in Lumières dans la Nuit 195 and information from Mr. Pastor, gives 22 September. The date discrepancy remains unresolved, so the month is the secure common precision.
The object was estimated at roughly four meters square and two meters high, about two hundred meters from the observer and approximately one hundred meters above the ground. Its interior shone with a warm light compared with an incandescent lamp. Dark shapes appeared to move busily inside. The witness reported watching for approximately seven minutes, during which the object remained nearly stationary or moved slowly, before it departed rapidly. No sound was reported.
The description concerns a luminous cabin and apparent interior shadows, not clearly resolved humanoid faces or bodies. Neither a surrounding saucer hull nor the occupants' number and anatomy can be reconstructed confidently from the available summaries. Distances, dimensions and duration are witness estimates, not instrument measurements. The source supports retaining the unusual rectangular appearance while distinguishing the observer's impression of activity inside from a demonstrated identification of living occupants.
