Case description
Two young couples were parked at Crackneck Lookout, Bateau Bay, on the evening of October 10, 1976. In the fuller account traced to UFOIC and ACOS investigations, the two men walked toward the cliff, heard movement, and saw an off-white figure climbing upward. They retreated to their car and locked its doors.
A woman then reportedly saw a hairless humanoid coming from the trees. It had eyes compared to a fly’s compound eyes, a small round opening for a mouth, very broad shoulders, unusually articulated arms and large legs. The occupants reversed away. One woman had also noticed a rectangular, burnt-orange light offshore shortly before the men returned. The account does not establish that the light was a vehicle or that the figure came from it.
Important measurements conflict: Hatch’s abbreviated entry gives roughly 1.5 metres, whereas the investigation-derived retelling gives 2.5–3 metres and approximately ninety-centimetre shoulders. Times likewise vary between 8:15 and 8:20 p.m. INTCAT cites Basterfield and Chalker, UFOIC Newsletter 49 and ACOS Bulletin 8. Damage to picnic furniture reported about a week later was attributed to vandals; it is not evidence connecting the figure to the site. The separate Bateau Bay photograph of 1972 belongs to another event.
