Case description
Joyce Bowles and Edwin, or Ted, Pratt reported a roadside encounter near Chilcomb Farm outside Winchester, Hampshire, on November 14, 1976, at about 8:50 p.m. Their Mini began shaking and moved onto the verge. They described an unusually fast-running engine and bright lights, followed by an orange, cigar-shaped object hovering close to the road.
The witnesses said that three figures were visible at a window in the object. One of those three figures then reportedly appeared beside their car and looked toward its dashboard. He was described as tall, with long blond hair, a dark beard, pink eyes and a silvery suit. Bowles described alarm, while Pratt recalled a striking sense of peace. The figure and object subsequently disappeared, and the pair were able to continue. Accounts also mention warmth and a later rash.
The published investigation included competing interpretations of the vehicle effects. A longer room, conversation, and memory-gap narrative belongs to the separate December 30 encounter and is not folded into this November record. The linked archival interview explicitly identifies November 14. The plate depicts the roadside phase, with the people, Mini, and craft reconstructed rather than presented as photographic evidence.
