DOVER, MASS, Massachusetts, United States
Open this case in the interactive AtlasCase description
Over April 21 and 22, 1977, several teenagers in Dover, Massachusetts, independently reported a strange figure beside local roads. The first witness, William Bartlett, saw it from a moving car perched on a stone wall.
Bartlett described a small pale creature with a very large melon-shaped head, thin body, long limbs and glowing orange eyes. He drew the figure soon afterward. Later that night John Baxter reported a similar form near a wooded roadside, and the next evening Abby Brabham and Will Traintor saw a pale creature from a car.
The witnesses' drawings and descriptions overlap in important respects, though lighting, distance and viewing time were poor. No craft was reported, no physical trace was recovered and the creature was not photographed.
Suggested explanations include a young moose, foal, owl, prank or imaginative reinforcement after discussion. The anatomy described by witnesses does not fit any explanation perfectly, but lack of evidence prevents a firm conclusion.
CE3 is retained because the record concerns a close anomalous being. The portrait renders the first sighting at a safe distance and does not turn the figure into a violent monster. It is illustrative, not evidence.
