Case description
Reports around Mount Magnet, Western Australia, on October 17, 1977, began with lights allegedly following a vehicle. Hatch describes two occupants and places the episode around 9 p.m. A fuller circulating account says three frightened men reached a hotel and reported that three objects had chased them, prompting other people to investigate.
Keith Basterfield’s catalogue describes eight observers going toward the town rubbish dump to look for lights said to have landed. They saw round, pulsating red and green lights with mist around them. Something apparently of human size was visible nearby. In the expanded HUMCAT-derived version, a witness thought figures were moving on the ground; they ceased to be visible when a spotlight was directed toward them. Darkness prevented further detail.
The publication trail includes Perth’s Daily News reports of October 17–20, followed by UFO journals and catalogues. The initial vehicle pursuit and later group observation should remain distinct phases. Neither misty outlines nor a human-sized impression establishes exposed anatomy or a detailed vehicle hull. The plate therefore shows the later paddock group and ambiguous shapes, rather than inventing identifiable aliens or presenting every observer as a witness to the earlier chase.
