Case description
An unnamed farmer in the Waimata Valley near Gisborne reportedly woke to his dogs barking at about 3 a.m. on December 2, 1977. Looking outside, he said that he saw a landed saucer in a paddock and two slim humanoids carrying one of his dogs toward it.
The June 1978 International UFO Reporter describes figures about four feet eight inches tall and an apparently unconscious dog. It says the farmer fired, the figures dropped the animal, one ran into bushes, and the other entered the departing object. The dog recovered from its dazed state. A fuller April 1979 APRO account, citing Xenolog, describes silver overalls, white enclosed helmets, large gauntlets, and glowing red boots; markings and ripple-soled footprints were subsequently claimed.
The published colors differ: IUR calls the craft bright red, whereas APRO describes a blue-glowing metallic exterior and bright red interior. The image follows that fuller APRO variant and depicts the observation before the reported shooting, without injury. This source trail predates later online retellings, but the farmer remains unnamed in these publications. The event concerns an alleged attempt to remove an animal; it does not describe a human abduction.
