Case description
Shortly after 6 p.m. on 31 January 1978, John, 10, Eddy, 8, and Michael, 10, were sliding on the frozen Memorial School field in Montvale, New Jersey. Ted Bloecher's preliminary report describes a plane-like passage followed by a square object with yellow corner lights, a slight dome and a red underside light projecting a beam that stopped short of the ground. The boys moved toward a dugout while watching.
After the object left, they reported six to eleven stiffly moving, bald humanlike figures in yellow outfits, boots and gloves. One had a larger, centrally creased, hawk-like head and a brown cape. Later they saw a brown-haired woman in a dark suit and blue fur, who pointed toward another square object and reportedly vanished in stages near the Public Works garage. John's brother Hilton, 12, watched an oval lighted object from home as the boys ran back.
Bloecher, Budd Hopkins and Pat Huyghe interviewed the children separately. The report records contradictions in directions and apparent size, and corrects a misunderstanding that five fire-dispatch calls independently concerned the UFO. Police subsequently found nothing unusual. The figures and craft appeared in successive phases, without a witnessed boarding linking them, and the stranger details remain uncorroborated testimony.
