South Middleton, MA being encounter — April 19, 1978

David F. Webb’s account of the Middleton reports includes a separate basement-window incident on the night of 19 April 1978. Four cousins were playing in the Gould family’s basement in South Middleton, Massachusetts. A witness identified as R.P. happened to glance toward a window at approximately eye level and saw a face staring back from only about a foot beyond the glass. She described a white, oval face with vertical slits at the nose and a narrow mouth. The eyes were unusually large, slanted and gold in colour. A transparent helmet may have surrounded the head, although that detail was uncertain. She turned to call to her companions; when she looked back, the face had disappeared. The accessible description does not say the other cousins saw it or provide an outside body, movement route or vehicle. Webb published the series in MUFON UFO Journal 143, later reprinted in January 2013. Earlier January and April sightings on the property involved different descriptions and must not supply missing details for this brief view. The import’s 8 p.m. is more precise than Webb’s “night.” No injury or medical finding is described in this episode despite a broad database effects tag. It remains a reported close view by one principal observer, without a confirmed identification.
