Case description
At about three in the morning on September 23, 1978, rally driver Carlos Acevedo and his companion Miguel Ángel Moya were traveling north from Viedma, Argentina, in a Citroën. They were competing in the South American Rally and had recently stopped for fuel.
Acevedo reported a brilliant light approaching from behind, initially resembling a rapidly closing truck. The men described the vehicle being enveloped in light and apparently lifted or displaced. Their recollection of the interval was incomplete.
When they resumed their journey, they found discrepancies involving the time, distance and fuel. Accounts refer to roughly two hours they could not explain and an odometer difference of about seventy-one kilometers. An object was reportedly seen moving away westward.
The drivers reported the experience, and police documentation subsequently became part of the case history. Their account concerns the car, the light and the journey's unexplained discrepancies; it does not include a continuous remembered examination by occupants.
