Case description
In September 1978, Alejandro Hernández Pérez and his teenage son Robinson reported that their car had been taken aboard a luminous craft near Santiago, Chile. The encounter is generally associated with the Quebrada de Macul area. The historical catalogue and contemporary press summary use September 24; later retellings also give September 23 or 26.
Hernández said a strange sensation slowed the vehicle before he saw a disc directly overhead. An opening appeared underneath it, the car vibrated, and the entire vehicle rose into the object as though on a lift. Father and son remained unable to act until they found themselves inside.
Five or six humanlike occupants gathered around them, wearing metallic-looking suits and appearing intensely luminous. A metallic-sounding voice ordered Robinson out. The frightened boy was removed from the car, lost consciousness and, according to his father, was placed in a box-like container. The voice then addressed Hernández by name and told him to get out. Around him he saw unfamiliar equipment with intermittent red and yellow lights, resembling illuminated casino machines.
An occupant said they knew him and wanted to speak with a just person. When he asked where they came from, they gestured upward. Hernández described an approximately ten-minute conversation in fluent Spanish. He said its subject was spiritual rather than threatening or military, but declined to reveal it because he had promised to wait until a further contact. He did not insist the occupants were extraterrestrial: their human appearance and command of Spanish left him considering other possibilities.
Father and son were returned to their car, which was lowered to the road. Contemporary reports also mention outside witnesses seeing the vehicle descend. Hernández subsequently spoke to reporters while maintaining his refusal to disclose the private conversation. Decades later, his family publicly revisited the account, identifying Robinson and describing the shaken condition in which father and son had returned home.
