Case description
At about 9:30 p.m. on October 29, 1978, two women driving along Heathcote Road between the weir and the Menai turn-off reported an unusual object. Bill Chalker later described the case while reviewing Australian Air Force files. This fuller account identifies civilian motorists, despite the military witness classification in the imported database.
The women initially saw the object roughly five hundred feet away and at a similar height. They described a large, dark disc with four or five illuminated portholes. Something appeared to obstruct one opening—a shadow or silhouette—without enough detail to resolve it into a particular being. Two lights shone downward like spotlights.
When the women stopped their car, the object reportedly moved about one hundred feet toward them, paused, and approached twice more in shorter stages. It then flew toward Engadine. The proximity of the Lucas Heights atomic facilities is part of the geographic context, not evidence that the object entered a reactor site or interacted with nuclear equipment. The Atlas preserves the possible figure as uncertain and does not replace the shadow with an invented detailed alien.
