Case description

One November evening in 1978, a woman was walking her dog on a hillside near Walsden in West Yorkshire. Accounts give November 28 at about 6 p.m. or November 30 at 6:30 p.m. for the event. The dog suddenly stopped and looked upward. Following its gaze, the woman saw a low, lens-shaped object surrounded by a green-white glow, with an intensely neon-blue central body. Three circular marks along its edge looked to her like windows. Despite the object's brilliance, it did not noticeably illuminate the hillside, path or surrounding landscape. The woman initially felt afraid. As she watched, she sensed a voice or presence telling her not to be frightened. Her fear gave way to calm, security and awe. She described feeling that the object or an unseen intelligence was examining the memories of her life. At the height of the experience, she felt joined to it at the soul, followed by a further reassurance. She did not describe visible occupants, physical contact or entering the object. The luminous form then appeared to divide or change configuration, released sparks and departed. The duration is not consistently given. Later accounts associate the report with investigators Jenny Randles and Roy Sandbach, and one catalogue identifies the woman only as Jenny.
