Case description
Two airmen on guard duty at Brindisi’s military airport reportedly observed an unusual luminous object on the evening of December 13, 1978. The reproduced CISU entry, citing the next day’s Corriere del Giorno, places the guards roughly 100 metres apart. They described an aerial object giving intermittent green and orange light and making abrupt manoeuvres.
The same report says they saw a nearby being wrapped in a coat rise from the ground and disappear. It does not give its height, face, skin, speech or a clear description of the luminous object’s structure. Some later summaries place the observation at 6:30 p.m., while Hatch gives 10 p.m.; another catalogue uses December 12. These variations justify an evening, month-only plate caption rather than a falsely precise reconstruction.
Later accounts associate the incident with an earlier luminous-mass report by two motorway observers. Those people should not be added as eyewitnesses to the figure at the airfield. The available material establishes a reporting chain, not a documented physical connection between the figure and light. The plate therefore shows separated guards, a dark coat-wrapped silhouette and aerial coloured lights, without inventing a spacecraft hull, boarding mechanism or alien anatomy.
