Case description
On the night of December 15, 1978, truck driver Angelo Capuzzello reportedly stopped after his radio failed near Licodia Eubea on the Catania–Ragusa road. The location is in Sicily: “Connecticut” in the imported regional field is an error. Accounts vary between about 11:45, 11:50 p.m. and 1 a.m., so the sequence is best described simply as nocturnal.
Two exceptionally tall figures, roughly two to 2.15 metres, approached the truck. They wore dark blue or black close-fitting suits, gloves, boots and large helmets with transparent visors and side fittings described as wires or short projections. One face was said to look entirely human and youthful. Beams from the helmets illuminated the cab. Capuzzello heard unintelligible speech and, thinking they might be asking their location, reportedly replied that they were on the Catania–Ragusa highway.
The figures turned back and disappeared toward the vegetation. Moments later he saw a dome-shaped object rise in a flash; his radio resumed working and a sulfurous smell was reported. Later versions add large footprints, but the Italian trace catalogue notes their limited corroboration. Richard Hall’s MUFON Journal 153 account and Italian summaries appear under both Ragusa and Licodia, so they should be treated as versions of this encounter rather than separate events.
