Viareggio, ITL being encounter — December 30, 1978

On 30 December 1978, an unnamed man in Viareggio reportedly heard a whistling sound while walking through Piazza Garibaldi. A metallic object, described as missile-shaped, was said to have landed nearby. A metallic or robot-like being briefly emerged from it, and the witness reported intense heat in the vicinity. According to the short narrative, the figure then returned inside the object, which departed rapidly toward the sea. The account does not record a conversation or physical contact. Nor does it give measurements, a precise duration, the being’s facial features, its clothing or a detailed arrangement of the object’s exterior. Those omissions prevent a more specific reconstruction of the reported occupant or vehicle. The accessible dossier traces the story through later Italian and international compilations rather than a developed, named witness interview. Although some retellings place it at night, the earlier cited account does not establish an hour. The Atlas therefore retains the reported place and date while treating the metallic figure and heat as claims. Lighting, architectural context and unresolved outlines in the plate are illustrative choices, not additional eyewitness evidence.
