Case description
At about 2:30 a.m. on 2 August 1979, Pascal Langlade, 27, and Edwige Collin, 20, were talking in their car near Dolus on the Île d'Oléron, France. The fuller account describes a rainy night, a sudden green illumination beyond trees and a broad glow near the ground. A strong white light then moved between hedges. Pascal also reported a small translucent green form resembling a crawling block; Edwige was frightened, and the car's headlights allegedly failed temporarily.
After backing along the track, they saw renewed illumination. When it ceased, an intensely lit opening appeared in a shape compared with two plates joined lid to lid. Four or five steps extended below it. A human form stood on the steps, another at the doorway and a third farther inside. Pascal reportedly edged forward, but when he switched on the headlights everything disappeared. He returned with his father the following day and found no traces.
Pascal Grousset's investigation in Lumières dans la Nuit 190 is the principal cited source. INTCAT cautions that its translation may be imperfect, versions changed and the investigator apparently did not interview Edwige. Those limits matter: the human forms have no resolved facial anatomy, while the catalogue's doors-in-empty-air and small-gray wording should not replace the fuller, qualified description.
