Case description
On August 15, 1979, around 11 p.m., baker Patrick Veillat reportedly encountered a small figure on the D134 near Lussac in Charente-Maritime. Fuller summaries give his age as nineteen or twenty and locate the observation near a minor road junction. Driving alone, he first noticed the figure on the left verge, illuminated by his headlights.
At roughly twenty metres it raised its left hand in a gesture compared to a scout's salute. He said the headlights, radio and engine failed together, and the car coasted another ten metres. The figure was estimated at 1.2–1.3 metres tall, with arms extending toward or below its knees. It wore an aluminium-grey suit, a differently shaded belt and a bubble-like helmet, whose upper section appeared transparent in moonlight. Hands and lower legs were poorly resolved.
After approximately fifteen seconds the figure reportedly lowered its hand and jumped sideways into nearby woods. The car's lights returned, and Veillat restarted the engine and left. The report reached gendarmes, and a CERPI summary describes his distress afterward. No craft was observed. Nearby fireball claims involved another witness and were not a witnessed arrival or departure for this figure. The temporal association with the car malfunction remains testimony, without a retrieved mechanical investigation establishing an external cause.
