Case description
Pianist Luli Oswald was travelling with a young family friend, identified as F. G., near Saquarema, Rio de Janeiro, on October 15, 1979. They first noticed lights over the sea during a visit to the coastal town. On the return journey, the car developed electrical and engine problems and began shaking violently.
They stopped near an old factory, above which they described an enormous luminous cylindrical object. Their next memory was of being in the car several miles away. At a petrol station they learned it was about 2 a.m., although they thought it should have been around 11:30 p.m. Roughly two and a half hours were unaccounted for.
During later regression sessions, Oswald described the car being drawn upward toward a dark disc. She recalled a medical-style room, child-sized gray occupants with large ears and narrow mouths, and examinations using light-emitting tubes. F. G. lay on a nearby table. She next remembered being back in the car, which resumed its journey. Those interior details belong to the later recalled sequence, rather than the pair's initial roadside observations.
Irene Granchi, Sílvio Lago and Waldo Vieira investigated the case. Granchi said she interviewed both participants only two or three days after the event. Oswald later retold it on Bandeirantes television's 3ª Visão, broadcast on April 17, 1987. That surviving testimony is a later account of the 1979 journey.
