Cherbourg, FR being encounter — January 14, 1980

The inherited Cherbourg entry describes an unusual bedroom experience at about 5 a.m. on January 14, 1980. A rectangular or box-like object reportedly appeared and was associated with a humanlike figure. The compressed wording says the box changed into the figure, which remained for approximately fifteen minutes before vanishing. The number of observers is uncertain even in the catalogue: it gives one primary witness and possible additional people without explaining what each saw. A complete original interview is needed to establish whether anyone independently watched the same sequence, whether the observer had just awakened, and whether the object and figure were seen successively or together. None of those details should be supplied from imagination. Later summaries using the same date and locality instead describe a rectangular object in a nearby field, with a humanlike occupant emerging and moving around it. That is a substantial difference of setting and action, so the bedroom and field versions are kept separate here. The illustration follows the inherited bedroom variant and uses a box-like form with an emerging humanlike outline. It adds no spacecraft outside the window, journey, examination, or detailed alien species. A sleep-related explanation is possible, but the surviving abstract does not establish one.
