Ronfe, Spain being encounter — March 9, 1980

Carlos P. L. and Miguel Palacios were spending a weekend with relatives in Ronfe, near Sarria in Galicia, when Carlos noticed an unusual brightness on Saturday evening in March 1980. The translated contemporary report distinguishes that initial light, around ten o’clock, from the main encounter around two the following morning. Thus the Atlas’s 22:00 time should not be applied indiscriminately to every phase. On leaving the tavern, Carlos reportedly saw a large object across the river, about three hundred metres away. Its upper and lower surfaces resembled shells and it had numerous portholes. Three human-shaped figures in white coveralls stood nearby, shining brightly and holding dim red lights. Miguel came outside and reported seeing the object and one occupant. José Díaz López, another person who emerged, described only a brightness and mentioned his poor eyesight. The account says the illumination spread widely, a muted whistle was audible near the river, and Carlos’s new Ford Fiesta would not start until after the object departed rapidly. No landing impressions were found. These remain reported observations, without an established cause for the car’s temporary failure. The reconstruction follows the white-suited, red-lamp description and preserves the different witnesses’ coverage rather than depicting three people as equally certain observers of all three figures.
