Case description
A couple using the pseudonyms Clint and Jane Chapin reported repeated unusual events around their California mining property. Their final encounter occurred near French Gulch on April 4, 1980, while examining a new road.
Jane described a thin figure about four feet tall standing in the road, with an egg-shaped object nearby. It reportedly took several steps toward them. When her hand moved toward her gun, the figure turned back. She described a gray suit and said Clint could not move. The figure disappeared, and the egg-shaped object rose and traveled west. The imported summary describes a ramp entrance; that detail is not clearly supplied by the recovered quotation.
The account belongs to a series investigated by Jacques Vallée and retold by Preston Dennett. Earlier episodes included alleged mining-area deposits, illness and a separate indoor figure. Those events should not be collapsed into the April 1980 observation or treated as independent corroboration of it.
Clint died approximately two months later of an apparent heart attack, according to Dennett. The sequence does not establish that the encounter caused his death. Jane's report supplies the principal figure description; exact facial features, craft construction and the cause of Clint's reported immobility remain unknown.
