Aviano, ITL being encounter — 1980

The Aviano story concerns an unnamed farmer riding his motorcycle into town in 1980. The surviving summaries disagree about the time: Hatch lists approximately 15:00, while a later account derived from Maurizio Verga's Itacat places it in the evening during spring. The latter describes the location as the town square; the ledger compresses it to an intersection. An exact day and the witness's identity have not been recovered. The farmer reportedly saw a very tall, monster-like humanoid sitting inside what appeared to be a glass cage. It sat exceptionally erect, its hands resting on its knees. Long green filaments covered its body, and its very long hair stood on end. As the farmer approached, an overpowering smell allegedly left him disoriented. He withdrew toward his motorcycle, then heard something resembling glass breaking. Looking back, he saw two blond girls screaming. The retrieved summary ends there, without explaining what the girls saw or what became of the enclosure and figure. No separate aerial object, takeoff or landing is described in that fuller summary. Calling the glass enclosure an extraterrestrial vehicle would therefore go beyond the account. Hatch's underlying classification includes hoax and likely-misidentification flags, but the retrieved material does not supply the investigation that justified them. The story is preserved as a sparse, disputed catalogue report; neither an identified prank nor an alien visitation can be established from the available evidence.
