Case description
Viv Hayward, Rosemary Hawkins and Valerie Walters reported an unusual encounter while driving home from a night out in Shrewsbury. The catalogue dates it July 17, 1981, at about 2 a.m.; a later retelling places the event in 1983. The women were travelling along the A5 near Atcham when bright, silent lights approached and appeared to follow their car.
Rosemary opened a window for a better look. The light became dazzling, and Viv found that the car would not respond normally to acceleration. After the lights dimmed and disappeared, the women went to Telford police station. They then became aware of an interval of at least twenty minutes they could not readily account for.
Later, in separate hypnotic interviews, they described being taken from the car into an unfamiliar interior. Their accounts included floating sensations, green-clad humanlike figures, smaller beings and a rounded, wheeled figure. Two described physical or intimate examinations; Valerie described figures examining her clothes and shoes.
The recalled sequence ended with their being returned to the car and attempting to drive away. The fuller interior descriptions came from those later sessions, while the roadside lights, car difficulty, police visit and missing interval were the original reported experience. The differing years in the source history are retained rather than treated as two separate three-woman encounters.
