Case description
The Lowton account concerns a young motorcyclist identified only by initials who was returning toward Oldham after visiting friends in Liverpool. On 9 May 1985 at about 04:30, he reportedly stopped in a deserted spot and heard humming from a field. Rogerson's fuller catalogue says he stopped for tea, while another digest says a cigarette. Investigating a silvery glow in a depression, he saw two silhouettes approaching and initially turned to leave.
A reassuring voice allegedly made him look back. Within about two metres stood a fair-haired man and woman wearing ski-suit-like clothing with egg-shaped implements on their belts. They looked human, with shoulder-length hair. The woman said they came from a third solar system and were adjusting their vehicle. After they walked back, the humming and light intensified; a cigar-shaped object rose, hovered and accelerated upward. The ledger additionally attributes a magnetic-field-and-gravity propulsion explanation to the encounter, but this is a reported statement, not demonstrated engineering.
Later claims involved dark-suited visitors and an RAF officer. The synopsis records disagreement among investigators: Jenny Randles regarded the witness as unreliable and a hoax probable, while Norman Oliver disagreed. Descriptions also differ over which visitor was taller. No independently verified craft, visitors or official involvement were recovered. The illustration labels its combination of the roadside conversation and subsequent craft appearance as a sequence composite, rather than silently showing separately reported phases as one witnessed instant.
