Case description

At about 3:30 a.m. on August 8, 1985, Domenica Cantone reportedly went onto her sixth-floor balcony in Florence’s Le Piagge district to escape the heat. A luminous object approached from the Cascine area and halted above a small football field near her apartment, at or slightly above balcony level. She described a silver-colored ovoid body topped by a transparent dome. Inside she saw two humanlike occupants apparently talking, then turning to look toward her. One published investigation describes large ears and caps; an Italian summary describes headphone-like headgear. Three tubular projections extended from underneath, giving the impression that the object might land. Cantone went inside to wake her husband, who did not respond to her concern. Returning, she saw the projections retract before the object rose and disappeared toward Monte Morello in a dazzling light. Accounts differ significantly on distance, ranging from a few metres to about fifty. The report was investigated by Italian groups and discussed by Fabrizio Villa and Calogero Orlando in Flying Saucer Review. Three circular impressions and powdery or carbonized material were reportedly noticed on the sports field two days later, but their cause was not independently established in the sources consulted. The image retains the transparent dome and paired occupants without implying a verified landing.

The Sky People: Six Seriously Strange UFO Encounters

Watch video · Preston Dennett

The film’s few-metres distance is one version; other accounts estimate about fifty metres. Headgear descriptions vary between caps with ear-like protrusions and headphone-like equipment. The witness did not watch a landing, and the later marks’ cause was not independently established. The narrator’s abduction and intentional-contact suggestions are speculation.
