Case description

At about 10 p.m. on June 19, 1987, an unnamed woman in New Albany, Indiana, reportedly heard a loud noise resembling a squadron of aircraft while in bed. She looked through her open window and saw a large, solid-looking object near the wooded hills within the city limits. The fuller MUFON Indiana summary gives 10 p.m., differing from the imported 8 p.m. time. She compared the object to a two-layer cake, dark gray where moonlight struck it, with two rows of rectangular windows: one blue and one amber-orange. She claimed to count forty-seven windows. It remained stationary for approximately four minutes before moving from view. In the lower tier she reported three normally sized humanlike shadows, apparently wearing close-fitting jumpsuits. One stooped as if picking something up while the others seemed to work with their hands. She saw no faces and could not supply enough detail for an occupant sketch; her impression that one was female was uncertain. The account entered Francis Ridge's regional files through MUFON Indiana investigator Jim Delehanty. Distance and size estimates—about two hundred feet away, garage-sized and fifteen feet high—were the witness's judgments, not surveyed measurements. No landing or occupants outside the object were reported. The plate retains the tiered shape, colored window rows and three internal silhouettes without inventing detailed anatomy.
