Case description
The Stocksbridge entry belongs to the 1987 road-ghost reports around a bypass still under construction near Sheffield. The ledger assigns 8 September at approximately 22:00; researcher David Clarke's fuller account places the security guards' experience more broadly in early September. Steven Brookes and David Goldthorpe were patrolling near Pearoyd Bridge when they first reported children dancing near a pylon, then disappearing. That is a separate phase from the cloaked figure on the bridge.
They next thought someone stood on the newly built flyover, which could not be reached directly from the road below. Suspecting a prank, one guard remained underneath while the other drove around and directed headlights toward the figure. They said the cloak appeared headless and the light passed through it before it vanished. Their manager described finding the men extremely frightened. Their distress supports an upsetting experience, but does not identify its cause.
Clarke interviewed people involved and distinguishes this episode from the police encounter of 11 September and later local stories. Those officers initially identified a moving shadow as flapping plastic, then reported other unexplained impressions; they were not independent witnesses to the guards' bridge figure. No alien anatomy, spacecraft or extraterrestrial communication occurs in the guards' account. The plate therefore presents the bridge observation as a road-ghost report, without adding a saucer, merging later police scenes or claiming a verified supernatural explanation. Bridge layout and the guards' relative positions are compressed for readability.
