In the early hours of January 20, 1988, the Knowles family was driving east across the Nullarbor Plain near Mundrabilla when a bright object approached their car. The witnesses described a white or yellow-white light that behaved aggressively, pacing the vehicle and coming down over the road. Driver Sean Knowles tried to avoid it.
